Nicolas Grenier is interested in the links between the systems in which we live – political, economic, cultural and social – and the principles and values in which these systems take root. His job is to translate these concerns into visual or physical form, through a variety of mediums including painting, installation, digital imaging and participatory experiences.
No Horizonis part of a series of metaphysical diagrams that characterizes the artist’s recent work. This is a digital image tailored specifically for the occasion, with a stained wood frame as an integral part of the artwork. It brings together the image and its medium in a field of colors, a microcosm of the artist’s installation approach, which often integrates his work into a modified environment.
Nicolas Grenier is the recipient of the 2016 Pierre-Ayot Award and was a finalist for the 2019 Sobey Art Award. His work has been presented at the Power Plant (Toronto), Commonwealth & Council (Los Angeles), Denny Dimin Gallery (Hong Kong), Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and Bruges Art and Architecture Triennial, among others. He is represented by Bradley Ertaskiran and Luis De Jesus Los Angeles gallery.
